18th March, 2001. "ATELIER
NEUMARKT DRESDEN 2001". INTERNATIONAL
PROJECT FOR THE TRADITIONAL The
"Gesellschaft Historischer Neumarkt Dresden" (Association for
the Historic New Market Dresden), founded by the Berlin architect Rudiger
Patzschke and others, invites architects to join an international project
this spring to prepare designs for the traditional reconstruction of the
Neumarkt in Dresden, bombed in 1945. The
INTBAU Research Project based at the Prince's Foundation, London, is
assisting in organising the project. The
designs will be presented at an exhibition opening in Dresden on May 5,
2001. Architects
are invited to visit Dresden to see the site and be briefed about the history of the city and the Neumarkt.
A group of architects will visit the city during the weekend March
30 - April 1, but visits can also be arranged at other times.
Participating architects will have to cover their own expenses. Some
important and well-documented historic buildings on Neumarkt are to be
reconstructed to their original condition before the bombing of 1945.
Architects participating in "Atelier Neumarkt Dresden 2001" are
invited to make designs for new traditional buildings on other sites in
the area. During
May, Gabriele Tagliaventi (A Vision of Europe, Bologna) will involve his
students at the University of Ferrara in producing a plan for the whole
Neumarkt area, based on the designs for individual buildings presented on
May 5. Architects are also
invited to attend a charrette in Ferrara, around May 21. This project will
be presented at another exhibition opening in Dresden June 15.

you are interested in attending the Dresden or Ferrara projects, please
