- It is a non-profit cultural association established by the University of Bologna in 1992 in order to organize the BOLOGNA TRIENNALE of architecture and urbanism, which was inaugurated the 29th of September 1992 by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales in the Centre San Giorgio in Poggiale.

Professors and researchers from the University of Bologna as well as architects, art historians from all the European countries are members of the association.

After the first edition of the BOLOGNA TRIENNALE OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM, dedicated to A Vision of Europe - which displayed more than 100 projects and built works by 105 architects from 18 European countries and the United States -, the A Vision of Europe association organized the LABORATORY FOR THE EUROPEAN CITY in collaboration with several European Institutions such as the French Institute of Architecture in Paris, the Bruxelles Foundation for Architecture, the San Sebastian University, etc;

The laboratory is a 3-weeks international design workshop which involves every year more than 30 young architects from different European countries who are assembled together in an European city where they elaborate projects for the urban re-birth and the re-vitalization of the urban environment (1993: Bologna; 1994: Paris; 1995: Bruxelles; 1996: Parma).

In 1992-94, the A Vision of Europe association organized several exhibitions on architecture and urbanism, such as:

- The Sustainable City, Bologne, March-April 1994;

- Garden-City Today, Bologne, March-April 1994;

- Villes d'Europe, Bologne, March-April 1994;

while the following meetings and workshops were held in collaboration with other international Institutions such as Institut Francais d'Architecture (IFA) Paris, The Prince of Wales's Institute of Architecture (POWIA) London, Kommunalverband Ruhrgebiet-IBA '99 , Essen, Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura , San Sebastian, University of Miami-School of Architecture:

- The second edition of the BOLOGNA TRIENNALE took place in March-May 1996 and focused on the theme of URBAN RENAISSANCE . The exhibition displayed 154 projects and realizations of European and American cities experiencing a new age of urban re-vitalization.

165 architects and town-planners were exhibited from all over the world, while about 300 people attended the three-days international conference on "The city of the third millennium".

After the Bologna Triennale, the URBAN RENAISSANCE exhibition started a tour through several European cities which includes Istanbul, San Sebastian, Oslo, Bruxelles, Berlin, Lisboa, etc.

The Istanbul exhibition has been organized as part of the 1996 United Nations HABITAT II - The City Summit.

The trilingual English/French/Italian catalogue of 350 pages fully in colors accompanies the exhibition with essays from American and European leading architects such as Maurice Culot, Leon Krier, David Watkin, Carroll William Westfall, etc.

- Among the books published by the A Vision of Europe association, one can notice the catalogues of the first and second editions of the BOLOGNA TRIENNALE (1992 - 1996) - with forewords by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales - the catalogue of the international exhibition on CITTA' GIARDINO/GARDEN CITIES (1994).

- The A Vision of Europe association publishes also A&C INTERNATIONAL, a magazine on architecture and urbanism devoted to the promotion of the art of building traditional cities and classical and vernacular architecture.
